15 years. One failure. A better system.
The story behind Bengal Origin Co. — and why transparency is built into everything we do.
15 years building Bangladesh sourcing
I spent 15 years building deep sourcing relationships across Bangladesh's ready-made garments sector — working across knitwear, woven, denim, and sweater categories for European importers. I understood compliance. I understood European buyer expectations. I delivered consistently.
In that time I built factory relationships across 20+ production facilities, learned the difference between a BSCI audit score and genuine operational reliability, and developed a specific understanding of what European mid-market buyers actually need from a Bangladesh sourcing partner — not just product capability, but documentation, communication, and accountability.
In 2022, three client orders failed. A factory partner I had worked with successfully for several years lost its bank financing mid-production. Unable to complete the orders, they began taking subcontract work from other factories to cover operational costs. Three shipments were lost. My European clients exited.
I take responsibility — not for the bank's decision, but for not having a financial health monitoring system that would have flagged the factory's deteriorating credit position months earlier. A factory can pass a BSCI audit and still be financially fragile. I did not have the protocol to catch that. That was a systems gap. I spent the time since closing it.
What Bengal Origin Co. is built on
The relaunch is built on a different architecture. Not promises — systems.
Financial Vetting Protocol
Bank solvency certificate required from every factory before presentation to any buyer. Refreshed every 6 months. Wage payment records monitored during active orders.
LEED-Certified Factory Access
The network includes factories holding LEED Gold certification — independently verified green manufacturing. This is documented and provable, not asserted.
Subcontracting Prohibition
Written confirmation from every factory before every order that subcontracting will not occur without explicit written buyer consent. Contractually binding.
Compliance Pipeline
Full documentation — OEKO-TEX, GOTS-ready, BSCI, Sedex, REACH — available within 48 business hours of any buyer request.
How we think about sourcing
Transparency is not a risk. It is a filter for the right clients.
Financial health monitoring is not extra due diligence. It is the minimum.
A sourcing partner who cannot tell you about their past failures cannot tell you about their systems either.
